Group for Research in Pain Evaluation
On June 10, The Eastern Pain Association sponsored a GRIPE meeting at the faculty club at Columbia University. The topic for discussion was the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies being discussed by the FDA. The goal on the meting was to make individuals aware of the proposals being put forth by the FDA and allow for open discussion of the issues. The event was scheduled to allow for individuals to submit comments to the FDA by the June 30 deadline.
Steven Passik, PhD a clinical psychologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and world-renowned authority on issues related to prescription opioid abuse was the featured speaker. Dr Passik presented the FDA proposals and his views on the topic and then led a vigorous and lively discussion of the topic over dinner. It was and interesting and entertaining event for all fortunate to have attended.
